Grief

Night ride in days past.
The adorable, bombproof, beginner-safe lesson pony (mentioned briefly in my last post) went over the Rainbow Bridge this morning. As he wasn't mine - just part of Fetti's herd - it's not for me to share details, but it's been a rough few days and he's already sorely missed.

This is the pony that gave me my bareback trail confidence, taught me a solid sitting trot at high speeds (also bareback), and rarely put a foot wrong. Good mind, good heart. He took a little piece of mine with him.

  2. I'm so sorry. I know that horrible feeling. They called me when my favorite lesson horse was colicing with no hope, I just cried into Major's mane. Your memories sound lovely. Gallop on.

    1. I was very lucky, in a way, that I spent much of the past few days helping to monitor him as he went downhill. It was only mostly out of the blue, rather than completely so as it would have been if I had not been helping caretake.

  3. I am so beyond sorry. A pony like that is worth its weight in gold. My heart breaks for you and all who knew and loved him.

    1. He absolutely was. Whole new standard for reliable, bombproof trail pony for the boyfriend. Perhaps someday I'll be so lucky as to find one half as good.
